AFE Grants Are Making a Difference:
"The support and encouragement of the Andover Fund for Education helps teachers to go beyond the ordinary and provide students with experiences that we hope will be memorable and inspirational for them. We couldn't do this without your generous support.
On behalf of the many hundreds of students who will benefit from this grant, a big "Thank You!" from the Engineering Lab at West Middle School. I'll send pictures when we start using the solar system. Please pass my thanks on to the other members of the Andover Fund for Education." - Mr. Daniel Miley, West Middle School
"It was a very interesting experience for everyone! The students learned a great deal about the law, and the process of presenting to a judge, as well as the normal procedures that occur with a trial. Read an account of Ms. Minda Reidy's "Proofs are all around us" project that combines mathematical proofs, drama, and the legal system done at Andover High School in the fall of 2007 (includes student comments). -11/7/07
"We put in for this grant because our curriculum needed some better stuff," Mr. Gregory [Wood Hill Middle School] said. "So far," he added, "the program has been a hit with students." 1/4/07
Sixth grade teacher Mr. Steve Tisbert recently received a grant from AFE which culminated in the construction of a student-designed beam bridge to cross a stream near Wood Hill Middle School. July, 2006
"Pre-kindergarten students at Shawsheen School are learning about storytelling in a whole new way, with a little help from some creative teachers and a grant from the Andover Fund for Education." About AFE & Purpose of this website
Andover Fund for Education
The Andover Fund for Education (AFE) is an independent, 501c3 not-for-profit organization comprised of community volunteers dedicated to enriching, enhancing and supporting the pursuit of excellence in the public schools of Andover.
Founded in 1991, AFE awards grants to educators for the implementation of new and creative projects designed to reinforce and supplement the core curriculum of the Andover Public Schools. We seek to encourage and support innovative projects, creative thinking, and far-reaching vision that will enrich the curriculum, inspire students and staff, and expand the community’s involvement in public education.
"We will focus the energy, the enthusiasm and the intellectual resources of the community on Andover’s public schools. In cooperation with the administration, the professional staff and the public, we will develop a system which will be the best in the nation. We will not do this today, or tomorrow, or even the day after, but we will do it."
